Professional Mentor Program
As a major of the Film, Media, and TV department the Institute of Media Arts provides
a professional mentorship program for advanced level students. These include students
that have completed at least 15 units of production classes and are currently enrolled
in 200 level production classes or interning with either KVCR or the FTVM Department.
Our mentor coordinator will match you up with a professional in the Film, TV, and
Media Industry. This mentor will be available for professional adivce, provide opprotuntities
for job shadowing, and networking. To be considered you must submit a professional
statement identifying your specific career goal and a letter of recomendation from
an FTVM faculty. Those submissions must be sent to our Mentor Network Coordinator
Amber Barnard at abarnard@valleycollege.edu. If you need support in writing a professional
statement please contact Sarai Maldonado at smaldonado@valleycollege.edu. The application
deadline is ongoing and there will be a final networking event in Los Angeles in the
Spring of each academic year.
Advanved Scene Study
This weekly workshop invites its participants to bring in scenes that they are acting, directing, or writing to help workshop ways to improve the work. Whether you’re a current dramatic arts major or have always had that desire to learn about the process this workshop is for you. This is open to all currently enrolled SBCCD students and IMA members. This will meet weekly at 3pm every Wednesday in MC-142. Begins Septebmer 6th, 2023.
High School Workshops
The media arts faculty of San Bernardino Valley College provide High School Students with deep dives into various concentrations and skills in the world of media arts. These include, Filming on Film, Basics of Graphic Design, Writing, and musical performance. To schedule a workshop contact Lucas Cuny at lcuny@valleycollege.edu.
Professional Development Certificates
Learn basics of video production to support your interests in film and media production. These certificates presented by the Film, TV, Media program at San Bernardino Valley College provide the basics in film and media production that can be completed full-time within a semester or over a year. Production Grants
As a student enrolled in our advanced level FTVM classes you can apply for production grants to help you complete your film and media projects.
FILM ON FILM Grant
This grant provides up to $20,000 towards funding needs to a student to complete the production of a short film produced in our FTVM 234 course on film. Funding needs include, Film Stock, film processing and scanning, media storage, production insurance, craft services, props, wardrobe, set design, locations fees, and consulting services. To apply be enrolled in FTVM 234 and complete the application outline here:
- Complete a budget and schedule
- Complete a shot list
- Have a completed script
- Complete a letter of intent expressing why your project should receive this funding
- Complete an elevator pitch

*Note: If you can demonstrate proficiency in film making you may qualify for prerequisite waiver.
*Note: Introduction film and tv production classes from other colleges or universities may meet prerequisite needs.
Cinema Production Grant
As a registered student in the FTVM 235 class you are eligible to receive funds to complete a large-scale production, such as a feature film, hour drama, half hour sitcom, documentary feature, or web series. Funding needs include, Media and storage, production insurance, craft services, props, wardrobe, set design, locations fees, and consulting services.
To apply be enrolled in FTVM 235 and complete the application outline here:
- Be registered in the FTVM 235 class
- Complete a budget and schedule
- Complete a shot list
- Have a completed script (in FTVM 121)
- Complete a letter of intent expressing why your project should receive this funding
