Greetings, Wolverines!

The ribbon-cutting event for the Applied Technology Building on March 6 was next level!  The cold weather and the rain did not take away from the best ribbon-cutting ceremony of my community college career. Thank you to every single member of our campus and district community who contributed to this historic moment.

Here are some topics for this week:

1. SPOTLIGHTING OUR SUCCESS – APRIL 25, 2025

Speaking of the Applied Technology Building, this year’s Spotlighting Our Success awards ceremony will take place inside this beautiful new facility on April 25, 2025. You should have received an email inviting you to nominate your outstanding colleagues for recognition. Submit your nominations at www.valleycollege.edu/spotlighting.

2. FAREWELL TO THE LIBERAL ARTS BUILDING – MARCH 26

At the end of this month, we will gather to celebrate 55 years of service for the Liberal Arts Building, which we are retiring to make way for the new Student Services Building. Join us on March 26 at 3:00 PM for a heartfelt tribute to this iconic facility that has shaped generations of Wolverines. Space is limited, so RSVP now at www.valleycollege.edu/55yearsofservice

3. SBVC BLACK-SERVING INSTITUTION (BSI) CONVENING – MARCH 27

As we embrace new beginnings, we invite you to participate in the SBVC Black-Serving Institution (BSI) Convening on March 27 at 12:00 PM in the President’s Conference Room. This important session will help define our institutional objectives and create a collaborative framework for advancing Black student success. Lunch will be provided, and all are welcome to join in this important dialogue. Please see the flyer attached.  Please RSVP with Noel Arciero in the President’s Office at narciero@valleycollege.edu

4. GRESHAM ART GALLERY PRESENTS: THE SASSE COLLECTION

On March 6, our Gresham Art Gallery launched its latest exhibition, The Sasse Collection—a stunning showcase of contemporary and modern works from the Inland Empire and beyond. The exhibit will run until April 24, so be sure to stop by and experience this remarkable collection. For more details, visit www.valleycollege.edu/artgallery.

5. HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELOR CONFERENCE – MARCH 14

On March 14, SBVC will host its annual High School Counselor Conference, welcoming counselors from our feeder high schools to campus. This event is an essential opportunity to build connections, share resources, and ensure high school counselors are equipped to guide students toward success at SBVC. Thank you to our counseling staff for your dedication to this effort!

6. SBVC’S NCORE APPLICATION ACCEPTED!

Exciting news---SBVC’s application to NCORE (National Conference on Race & Ethnicity) has been accepted! This is a tremendous opportunity for our team to engage in critical discussions, expand DEI initiatives, and bring new insights back to our campus. If you are interested in attending NCORE as a part of SBVC’s team, please complete the application . Application will be due in by Friday, March 21st.

7. RISING SCHOLARS OUTREACH INITIATIVE

SBVC is continuing its commitment to justice-impacted students through the Rising Scholars outreach program. Recently, our counseling division connected with 150 students in group homes, foster care, and the juvenile justice system, sharing the educational opportunities available at SBVC. These outreach efforts play a vital role in providing pathways to success for students facing systemic challenges. Thank you to Frank Dunn and our counseling team for your dedication to this work!

Over the weekend, I was joined by members of the Executive Team and others at the Men’s Basketball game against Mt. SAC.  The Wolverines dominated the entire contest and earned a trip to the Elite 8 tournament.  We will play West Valley College this Thursday at 5:00 PM at Mt. SAC.  If you are able, please support our Wolverines on their quest for a state championship.  SBVC will be hosting the SBCCD Board of Trustees meeting this Thursday, so I will be supporting in spirit.  Good luck Basketball!

Let’s keep the momentum going, Wolverines!
