On October 26, the San Bernardino Valley College Department of Student Health Services (SHS) received information that a student had withdrawn from courses due to being diagnosed with active tuberculosis. The affected student is receiving treatment and is expected to recover, but will not return to campus until a medical clearance is issued by the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health (DPH).

San Bernardino Valley College and DPH is working to notify the campus community and conduct tuberculosis screenings on campus for all students, faculty and staff who may have been exposed. This mandatory two-part process will include a skin test followed by a reading of the test two days later by DPH staff on campus.

Screenings will be conducted on November 6 and November 8, and all potentially exposed individuals are being notified by email and letter. Those who do not receive official notification are not considered to be at risk for exposure.

For more information on these screenings, please contact the San Bernardino Department of Public Health, Communicable Disease Section, at 1 (800) 722-4794.
