Large Donations to Valley 360 Center Help to Expand Services & Equipment
From food to diapers to hygiene products, the Valley 360 Resource Center is here to help SBVC students in need of essentials. By providing these items, Valley 360 provides students peace of mind, allowing them to focus on their education without worrying about where their next meal will come from.
The resource center, in cooperation with Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County, is sustained by donations, and contributions have recently come in from the SBVC Associated Student Government (funds to purchase snacks and food bags from Stater Bros.); Kiwanis Club of San Bernardino (water, cereal, nonperishable goods, diapers, baby food); C.W. Driver & HPI Architecture (oatmeal, Hamburger Helper, hygiene products); New Beginnings Outreach Church (frozen turkeys); SBVC Bookstore (frozen food); and Youth Enrichment Services/Santa Claus Inc. (chips, drinks, popcorn). Individual faculty members have also dropped off canned goods and fruit.
"Through these donations, we have been able to support the basic needs of our students during the pandemic and will continue as we re-open campus," Marie Maghuyop, student activities and campus center specialist, said.
Special funding through the Hunger Free Campus Bill also allowed the resource center to partner with the Culinary Arts program and cafeteria to provide freshly-prepared meals for students and purchase Stater Bros. and Target gift cards for students, groceries from Stater Bros., new freezers and shelving for the pantry, and various supplies.
The Office of Student Life oversees the Valley 360 Resource Center, and it is staffed by the Student Equity & Success division. The resource center is open to students registered for the current semester, with one visit per week. To pick up a pre-packaged food and hygiene bags, students must show their student ID cards or share their number. This fall, the pantry's hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The pantry is on the left side of the library, facing AutoZone.
