During Black Student Success Week, SBVC faculty and staff participated in daily webinars about how to best support Black students amid their community college journeys. The topics included equity in higher education leadership, diversifying faculty, and ways to advocate for student success. Black Student Success Week took place during the last week in April, and the webinars were open to all California community college administrators, staff, faculty, and students.

On April 29, SBVC also hosted its own special virtual event to discuss higher education's racial reckoning in the wake of the Derek Chauvin trial. Moderated by LeJohnnae Bertrand, president of SBVC's Umoja-Tumaini Club, and Frederick Jones, an SBVC alum and past president of Umoja-Tumaini, the event's panelists were Dr. Stephanie Lewis, SBVC Dean of Mathematics, Business, and Computer Technology; Dr. Anthony Blacksher, SBVC sociology professor; Travis Love, SBVC alum; and Dr. April Clay, the executive director of Clay Counseling Solutions.
