New Fast-Track Job Training in Electrical Tech Offered at SBVC
For those who want to energize their career skills in 2018, San Bernardino Valley College is now accepting applications for a new accelerated program in electronics technology where full-time students can finish in eight months, instead of two years. Classes start January 16 and students can still apply by visiting www.valleycollege.edu.
"San Bernardino Valley College is the first and only community college in San Bernardino County to offer this state-approved certificate on a fast-track basis," said SBVC dean of applied technology, transportation and culinary arts Albert Maniaol.
In eight months, and seven day-time courses, students will receive hands-on training and cover everything from voltage analysis to digital logic design, an essential skill for developing cell phones, computers, and other electronic devices.
Similar programs at local private trade colleges cost about $16,000. The electronics technology certificate at SBVC costs about $1,500 and financial assistance is available.
On average, workers in electric tech go on to earn an annual salary of $47,000 two years after graduating, and about $55,000 five years after. The U.S. Department of Labor projects employment growth in California with about 24,400 jobs for electrical technicians by 2024, or about 710 job openings per year.
