SBVC Represented at National HACU Conference
On October 8, San Bernardino Valley College sent the largest delegation of students in the history of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) Conference to the association’s annual gathering in San Antonio, Texas. This annual event is instrumental in bringing together community colleges and universities to share best practices and innovative programs that impact Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs). Every year, SBVC has sent a small delegation (3-5 students) to attend. This year, SBVC broke the conference’s record and was able to send 25 students, which is the largest delegation of community college students that HACU has ever had. “Prior to this conference, many of our students had never traveled out of state or flown,” said Dr. Ricky Shabazz, Vice President of Student Services. “I am thrilled that we were able to provide them with this opportunity.” The conference was a chance for SBVC students and staff to share information about the college’s Dreamers Resource Center, which is the first office of its kind created at any college in the United States.
