Getting to SBVC has never been easier. Beginning August 15th, SBVC students with a valid student I.D. card can ride Omnitrans buses for free anytime through June 30, 2012.

Logo that says Starting this fall, students at San Bernardino Valley College may be paying higher enrollment fees of $36 per unit due to the state budget crisis, but two new initiatives on the campus will ease the pain of the increased fees by providing free rides to campus with Omnitrans bus service and free parking across Mt. Vernon Avenue at the Pro Swap Meet.

On May 19, 2011, the Board of Trustees of the San Bernardino Community College District (SBCCD) voted to approve an agreement with Omnitrans to provide free ridership for students with a valid San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC), Crafton Hills College (CHC) or SBCCD student identification card on all Omnitrans buses during the 2011-2012 academic year that begins August 15. The pilot program, called “Go Smart”, is funded by participating institutions and a variety of local cities and governmental entities.

In order to ride for free, as was the case with previous one-week “Go Smart” promotions in 2009 and 2010, valid student identification cards from SBVC or Crafton Hills College (CHC) will be accepted by existing Omnitrans fare boxes. The pilot program will run through the entire school year until June 30, 2012, and also includes Crafton Hills College, California State University San Bernardino and Chaffey Community College. Students on each campus will be able to continue the bus pass program after that date, with the approval of the SBCCD Board, by voting to establish a nominal student transportation fee. A simple majority vote of those participating in the referendum is required for passage, and would be scheduled in the spring of 2012.
